He is committed to ethical trading and only uses timber from responsibly managed forests. His friendly approach to work helps customers navigate the challenges of building projects. Bespoke"][/caption] Qualified Before setting up his business, Oliver did his apprenticeship with a big company specialising in commercial property refurbishment. He gained his NVQ and City and Guilds qualifications in Site Carpentry. He also worked for a Shrewsbury firm doing domestic carpentry and joinery, including the restoration of listed buildings. Bespoke Oliver now works as a freelance carpenter and joiner for individuals and businesses. Each project is bespoke and begins by researching the client’s requirements. He mainly works as a sole trader but also with trusted sub-contractors on large projects. This includes fitting kitchens and wooden floors, through to large jobs like constructing timber roofs and eco-buildings. Ethical Oliver seeks to act ethically in all business. - PlanningOliver Gibbs can help you plan your building project. You may have a rough idea of what you want but are not sure of the details. Oliver Gibbs is happy to discuss your ideas with you and talk through some of the practical considerations. For large projects, you may need planning permission or building regulations approval. It is your responsibility to apply for this before the start of works and the Shropshire Council Planning and Building Control department and website provides good advice. If the work you want requires an architect or specialist carpentry or joinery services that Oliver Gibbs cannot provide, he may be able to recommend good local firms that can help you. Once you have agreed for Oliver Gibbs to start work, it is important to prepare the work area by making sure it is clear, accessible and safe for the job. You should also take care to protect any fittings and features that are not described in the works. Then the work can begin!
- QuotesOliver Gibbs provides free quotes to clients. Quotations for work state the details of the work and the cost of materials and labour. Where a job is too complex to provide a quote, Oliver Gibbs may be able to provide an estimate, stating the minimum and maximum expected cost for the project. Quotes are based on the information and plans provided by a client and are valid for 40 days. Quotations may change if a client changes their plans or if material costs go up unexpectedly. In such cases, a client will be provided with a revised quote to agree. For large jobs, a deposit will be required prior to the commencement of works and a payment schedule of staggered payments will agreed with the client. Book your quote | More on payment
- PaymentOliver Gibbs accepts several forms of payment for his carpentry and joinery. Money Transfer BACS transfer is our preferred method of payment. Clients will be provided with the relevant bank details for transfers when invoiced. Cheque Cheque should be made payable to ‘Oliver Gibbs’. Cash Cash payments are accepted. A discount is not provided for cash payment; we accept cash for clients’ convenience not to avoid paying taxes. Deposits For large projects, a deposit maybe requested upfront to help cover material costs and a series of staggered payments maybe requested from clients. A typical payment schedule would be a 30% deposit, a 30% payment when half way through the project and a 40% payment upon completion. A seperate invoice will be issued when a payment is due stating how payment can be made.
- CancellationClients can cancel Oliver Gibbs’ services at any time. Once an agreement has been made with Oliver to start a project, clients have a right to cancel that agreement within seven days without penalty. If the client cancels the agreement with Oliver Gibbs after the statutory seven day cooling-off period or if they cancel at any time after requesting work to commence, they will have to pay Oliver Gibbs for all the work that has been done to date (calculated as a proportion of the quoted price) and for any other losses reasonably incurred by Oliver Gibbs. To cancel services, clients must write to Oliver Gibbs at his address and deliver this notice by hand, post or by sending electronic mail.
- ComplaintsAt Oliver Gibbs Carpentry & Joinery we aim to achieve customer satisfaction. However, if clients are unhappy about our work, practices or price, we have a clear complaints procedure to resolve problems. Step 1. Oliver Gibbs will try and resolve any difficulties with the client. When a client becomes aware of a problem, the client should contact us as soon as possible stating what the problem is and what he or she would like done about it. Oliver Gibbs aims to respond and resolve complaints quickly. Step 2. If that does not succeed, the client can take his or her complaint to Consumer Direct (08454 04 05 06). They will pass on the details of the complaint to Shropshire Trading Standards. The Trading Standards Service will then offer advice and may work with both parties to resolve the dispute. Step 3. If intervention by Trading Standards fails to lead to a resolution, the client can seek an Alternative Dispute Resolution which the Trade Register will suggest. Alternatively they could go to court. If in the wrong, Oliver Gibbs Carpentry & Joinery could be removed from the Trade Register. Oliver Gibbs is committed to dealing with any complaints constructively and fairly.
